As promised, I've furthered the 50-State Strategy this past October, traveling through "The Middle," Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. That's 49 out of 50 states visited with only Hawaii left "hanging 10." Hopefully it won't be hanging for too long. Can't surf. Yet.
I loaded up the blog so far with posts and pictures concerning Nebraska, Iowa and several stops so far in Missouri with more to come, a travel day tick-tock and "A 50-States Strategy primer", how this began and why it's continued thus far.
There's some neat pictures from pre-blog days accompanying that primer post. Please finish reading this overview and then scroll to the bottom of the page to start there. I've got more photos that I am going through - slowly - and will post them with captions at some point (after I finish the four states remaining from this just past trip) on their own separate page, a new blog wrinkle, since 2006 anyway, I discovered. It will eventually be tabbed separately along the top of the blog. Got some some good ones, just got to find 'em. I'll link you up when I post the page(s).
If you like a photo and want a better look, just click on it to enlarge it.
Speaking of wrinkles, I also spiffed up the blog format (hope you like it) and added a search function that's located at the top right side of blog. If you interested in a certain state or place and it's been blogged about, now it's at your fingertips. If you like a photo and want a better look, just click on it to enlarge it.
Upcoming posts will detail visits to:
- A couple of stops in Topeka, the Kansas capitol, then a trip south and an unexpected layover just north of the Oklahoma border for part of a week-long small-town Halloween celebration I stumbled upon along the darkened highway. This town's a hidden gem;
- A visit to the Oklahoma birthplace and boyhood home and later the fantastic museum dedicated to an unbelievable American story and storyteller, Jazz Age multi-media superstar Will Rogers. This guy is fascinating, well worth any research you might do on your own. What a story, what a life.
- I finished up with a sometimes harrowing race against the clock through the Ozark Mountains into Arkansas and down to a semi-urban national park that now celebrates its heritage and bounty with the help of kitchen fixtures!
Got back just in time to elude the airport scans and patdowns. Heard there's a 2-for-1 special over at Logan today. Whew...
I will be posting these stories and photos in the coming weeks. Please check back. I'll also email out links when I complete this phase.
Remember start at the bottom of this page for the new stuff but, if you fancy, click on the link for older posts to peruse previous postings.
Thanks for your support.
